Muscle Imbalance

A muscle imbalance is when one muscle group is too tight and strong while the opposite side is weak and stretched out. This eventually changes your and alters your joint alignment and causes poor posture and could potentially lead to prolonged pain or injury. This muscle imbalance can be caused by many things. Two of the most common causes can be a car accident or a sports injury. When your body suffers some type of trauma or impact, your body instinctively alters its movements to protect itself from further injuring the pained area more. Overtime you begin to compensate for the pain by doing things like limping or using the opposite side of your body for an activity, causing an imbalance. At Specialized Physical Therapy, we can help get you back on track and reduce your muscle imbalances by targeting the specific muscles and surrounding muscles to allow you to regain strength and mobility in the imbalanced area. Physical therapy breaks down the cycle of guarding the pain area, compensating, and building strength through the weak points in your body. If you are experiencing this, please feel free to call and schedule a consultation today, so we can help you get back to doing what you love!
